The last few decades have seen exciting developments in candidate drug compounds, yet many of these protein drug candidates have not advanced past lab R&D.

The promising compounds such as monoclonal antibodies and proteins with novel modes of action have stalled out due to the limitations of production in either CHO cells (because of the cost) or microbial fermentation because of the short supply in fermentation capacity.  In addition, there is the incompatibility of some proteins in microbial cells.

Advances in controlled environmental agriculture have opened up the possibility of manufacturing protein compounds at low cost, high quality, and consistent yields.

Because plants have evolved to respond to environmental conditions to modulate cellular metabolism and regulate gene expression, plants can manipulate them to produce proteins from introduced genes under specific ecological signals and conditions.  This combination of technical advances and underlying plant capacities opens up a wide range of possible biological production. Such production processes will unlock opportunities to widen access around the world to affordable medicines.

This vitally important conference will explore the possibilities of how plants can respond to signals in their environments to produce novel proteins. It will provide a collective viewpoint into the future world of plant biologics in 2022 and beyond.  And as a group, we will explore a range of new protein drug candidates suitable for production in plants grown in highly controlled environments.  There has never been a symposium like this because the Zea platform is a novel solution.

As an invaluable architect at the forefront of what's next, so join us, won't you?

We invite you to share a slide deck in pdf format to be included in the symposium proceedings*.

Please limit your submission to no more than 12 slides on a topic that pertains to the themes of either:
-        Plant biologics in the 21st Century - A vision for what is possible
-        Promising protein therapeutics for worldwide access.

RSVP your intent to contribute by November 19, 2021. All final slide decks must be received no later than by December 30, 2021.

A black and white copy of the symposium proceedings will be shared with all symposium attendees. The booklet will be edited by Kathleen Hefferon, PhD, Cornell University faculty and author of "Plant-derived Pharmaceuticals: Principles and Applications for Developing Countries".

* You do not need to be an attendee to submit a slide deck.

We hope to see you at this exciting Inaugural Event on January 28, 2021.

Kindly send all intents, materials, and questions to our Chief Scientist, Claire Kinlaw at:
